Only 10 days to go!
Here is a brief overview of the tugfest event.
August 26 Friday9 PM Friday evening, you and your family can enjoy the Parade of Lights through the harbour. The Parade of Lights, decorated and illuminated tugs from Tugfest, will make its way across the harbour, along the Town dock and out into the Sound.
It is a spectacular event for the audience lining the town dock. A long line of beautiful boats, in line astern across the harbour, goes up to the north end of the Town dock, in procession along its full length. People aboard the tugs wave to friends and an appreciative audience on the dock, and it is a friendly, magical evening. August 27 Saturday
1 PM. Colour Parade to Big Sound. Flags flying, the tugs are “all dressed” for this parade, a colourful event which sets the stage for the races.
2 PM Tug races by class. The colour, size, and noise and excitement of the spectacle will fascinate people of all ages. Best views may be from the shoreline fitness trail.
3 PM -5PM Tug display at Town Dock. You can meet the owners, ask them about their tugs, and see how the tugs are restored and modified.
Location: Town Dock, 9 Bay Street, and along the waterfront to the west. The Rotary and the Algonquin Regiment Fitness Trail will provide a good view of the races. Pick it up just north of the Stockey Centre, where the trail crosses Bay Street, leading northwest along the shore.
