Parade of Lights

A Highlight of  Tugfest is the Parade of Lights. Tugs will put there best effort into being the most impressive for the judges.  This event will be on the Friday Aug 22nd starting at dusk. The Parade will start from the Penetanguishene Town Dock around the harbour and back. There will be many viewing points so bring a lawn chair and enjoy the multitude of colours.  This is always one of the most popular events for the spectators.

The pictures  are from the 2005 Parry Sound Tugfest Parade of Lights.

As the excitement builds for  the 2008 Tugfest Georgian Bay in Penetanguishene, I will show you some highlights of the 2007 Parry Sound event. This is what it looks like from the start line, everyone working hard to get an edge and come home with a trophy.

Tugfest Penetanguishene

This photo is of the Prescontont, Mink Isle, and Scuffy in the high power race at the 2007 Parry Sound Tugfest . This is what you can expect to see in  Penetanguishene  on Aug 22, 23. We will launch the event under our new Logo Tugfest Georgian Bay. Each year we will be in a different Port of Call, Owen Sound 2009, Parry Sound 2010.  It's our hope that more people will have an opportunity to see this wonderful event in their home Port.

Discovery Harbour

Now  it`s offical , Tugfest 2008 will be in Penetanguishene.  We will be featuring  sites in and around Penetanguishene Harbour. The pictures of the tall ships where taken at Discovery Harbour, a navel establisment  build in the early  19th century. You can sail on scenic Penetanguishene Bay aboard the replica schooners, H.M.S Tecumseth and H.M.S Bee.  This is a great place for a  family outing with a lot more to see at this historic site. For more information check out the Town of Penetanguishene Web Site under attractions, or call 705 549 8064.

We're On The Move

It's official Penetanguishene will be hosting the 2008 Tugfest.  Lots of changes in the works for this year. We now have a board of governors, as well as committee chairs . Our new format will be to visit a different coummity each year, with Penetanguishene hosting 2008, Owen Sound 2009 & Parry Sound 2010. The new format will be called "TUGFEST GREOGIAN BAY". The host community will be featured on the festival page of this site.   Aug 23rd & 24th are the dates for this years event. These are exciting times for us as, we move ahead.  I'm looking forward to working with the Various committes for the event.

The Picture is of the Tug "Dawn Light" back in the 80's. Captain Garnett Cheney, one of the founding members of the then Parry Sound/ Penetanguishene Tug Races, was the owner of the Dawn Light at that time. She was moored in Pentanghuisene harbour for many years & was purchased by Ray Davis after the passing of Capt. Cheney.  Capt Davis has been operating out of Tobermory doing dive charters and adventure tours with this gracious old lady of 100 plus years.
