Tugfest 2006:
We are starting to see blue sparkling water as the ice melts away for another season. Time to start planning our events for this summer, The Great Tug Boat Race on the St. Mary's River Sualt St. Marie will be our first event on the July 1st weekend. On August 25 & 26th Parry Sound will host the fourth annual Tugfest. The photo is of the Joyce B Gardiner in our 2005 event, she was most impressive. Photo taken by Ted Krug.

Spring Or Is It:
This is the business end of the {Ice Breaker} CCGS Samual Risely. Parry Sound Harbour still has 10 to 12 inches of ice on it, and the next 14 day forcast calls for below normal temperatures for the season. We had an Elk go through the ice last night. There was a rescue attempt, but they failed to save it. A fact of life, and so it goes all over the world.

The keel was laid in 1943 and the hull mothballed until 1960 when the vessel was finally completed and commissioned. She served as a harbor tug in Esquimalt British Columbia until the late 1990's, and during this time, she was maintained to Navy Standards. More on the Beamsville at www.onelink.ca/beamsville. CCGS Risley:
It was foggy and wet and not a good day for ice fishing as the Risley departed for ice breaking duties on the upper great lakes. She was at Parry Sound Base for maintenance work as well as a crew change.

Wavy 11:
Fish Tug Wavy 11 waiting out the winter in Point Au Barrel. When the ice lets go of her grip she will be under tow and on her way to Port Dover Lake Erie. Dave Matthew of Matthews Marine will turn her into a thing of beauty, looking forward to seeing just what he has in mind. Maybe we will see her in the tug races some day.
